I like the simple styling of the new Men’s Departer Jacket, it’s loyal to the brands functionality and clean lines, and I stayed very dry in the two layer Gore-Tex shell, with a ‘durable water repellent finish’ and that super soft feel – an inside mesh layer helps breathability too. I didn’t need to use the lightweight powder cuff, but it doesn’t get in the way when wearing the jacket, even around town – I felt as comfortable wearing it doing my shopping as I did on the slopes. The large hood with drawstring goes neatly over a helmet and there’s under-arm ventilation for when things start to heat up. It’s hard to fault this multi-functional jacket and if you’re looking for something that doubles up as a smart winter coat and a ski jacket that oozes style then The Departer is certainly worth the fairly high price tag.
► Verdict: Technical ski jacket that is versatile enough to wear in the city and on the slopes.
► Best for: City slicker by week, freeride fanatic by weekend.
