The long awaited collaboration between Montane and Gore-Tex is as good as expected, and whilst I’m disappointed that the flagship Endurance Pro isn’t available for women, the lighter, simpler Alpine Pro jacket can handle anything the British climate throws its way. Made from Gore-Tex Pro shell, outstandingly waterproof and durable, there is a premium price tag, but it’s a worthwhile investment if you regularly head out in bad winter weather. The hood is excellent, wired, helmet friendly and adjustable. There are roomy pockets for maps and clug (three external waterproof and one internal mesh pocket). Underarm zips efficiently deal with venting as required. I’d like to see slightly wider cuffs for big gloves, but now I’m being picky. All this technical loveliness comes in at under 400g.
VERDICT: High performance waterproof membrane partnered with near perfect design.
BEST FOR: Alpine, winter and summer mountaineering.
