The Gerber is the larger of the three multitools here, and scores well with a large knife blade, an excellent full length screwdriver with exchangeable bits, and a hefty pair of needlenose pliers that are up to the same kind of use and abuse as any stand-alone pair in my home toolbox. There are also wire cutters, a bottle opener, a serrated second blade (not quite a ‘saw’, sadly) and a file, as well as a few other features. The locking system is the best in test and there’s a tough sheath that will attach to a belt. As a solid pair of pliers with a few extra functions this is great, but as a general-purpose outdoor tool, I found the knife blades duller than the competition, and the weight of 270g a little offputting.
VERDICT: Majors on the pliers and screwdriver, less effective as an outdoor all rounder.
BEST FOR: DIY at home or in the campervan.
