The Extrem 7000 is a high quality Polartec fleece with one superb stand-out feature: an inbuilt balaclava. Consequently you can pull it over your head and wear it as a Buff-esque neck tube, pull it up from there to cover your mouth and nose in cold conditions and then combine it with the hood for full or minimal head coverage as you please. What’s most satisfying is that the slender, stretchy material (a polyester/elastane mix) is totally unobtrusive when not in use, so when the balaclava is sitting unused behind your neck you really don’t know it’s there. Beyond the balaclava the hoody is faultless – soft and supple grid-based Polartec pile within, a luxurious chin/beard guard, two sizeable pockets, a perfectly judged athletic cut, thumb loops, spot-on elasticated sizing at the low-cut hem and on the hood… it has it all. You’ll feel even a moderate autumnal wind through it, but it’s also an impressively lightweight layer (380g) and the perfect breathable outer in summer and heat trapping mid in winter. I really can’t rate the Extrem 7000 highly enough. Dan Aspel
