The novelty of the Bam Bamboo Contrast Stitch is that it’s made of Bamboo (you may have guessed that from the name). What’s exciting from an environmental point of view is that it’s the fastest growing plant on Earth and can return the same yield volume as cotton from 10% of the land area (and it’s just as biodegradable too). This would mean nothing if the fabric you can produce with it weren’t comfortable, but combine 68% of it with 28% cotton and 4% elastane, as in this top, and you end up with something truly exceptional. I’ve not worn a more comfortable baselayer and it offers all the warmth retention and odour-prevention of merino without any of the potential itchiness. Bam’s choice of cut is utterly superb, long enough for excellent coverage with a top quality hem at the neck and wrists and with cosy thumb loops too. The vibrant colours just add to the appeal. Moisture wicking has been good in my testing and the high UV prevention rating adds peace of mind too. It has quickly become my favourite outdoor baselayer.
VERDICT: Exceptional comfort and superb design for a keen price.
BEST FOR: Comfort.
