When I was testing the Falcon GVs, I simply wasn’t aware of them. That might not sound like a great compliment, but it’s actually a very positive thing to say about a piece of outdoor gear. My scales weigh them at around 530g per boot (UK9), which is at the lighter end of the market. The laces are simple yet effective, with just a single set of eyelets to wrap around each time, and the comfort levels are high thanks to a well-judged density of midsole and Asolo’s precision fitting. Technically they’re top-end too, the Gore-Tex lining predictably withstood regular submersions during my testing and the “Redster” outsole – made with Vibram Megagrip combined solid wet grip on rock with admirable performance from the lugs on crumbly or slick mud slopes. If I have a criticism it’s that the pleasingly breathable suede/polyester upper is a little thin to cushion the pointiest rock incursions on broken ground, but that really is nitpicking.
VERDICT: Very comfy, very light, very capable and very hard to fault.
BEST FOR: Every summer adventure – from treks to scrambles.
