Even the most minimalist gear by Arc’teryx has a sumptuous feel and this is no exception. The Atom SL (“Super-Light”) has panels of barely there Coreloft insulation (40g/m²) on the front and back, and silky soft fleece side panels that breathe well. The 20 denier nylon shell is not completely windproof, but does offer some resistance, and is also incredibly breathable. It’s the least warm of the long sleeved jackets tested, whilst also the lightest. The adjustable wired hood is roomy, but is bit floppy, a flaw that I’m happy to overlook as everything else works so well. Features include zipped torso pockets and draw cord hem. Weight 235g.
VERDICT: Tactile, ultra-light and ultra-breathable layer.
BEST FOR: Multi sports in cool weather.
